Back to the 80s

As I was searching for something that would pick me up in those grey and cold days, I remembered all the cool movies from my “childhood”. Most of them I actually saw in the 90s as a teeny but I grew up with them and they are a very important part of my past. Somehow they give me a feeling of home and of “the good old days”. Most of them I saw more than three times. And some I could watch again every year.

Here are my top 50 “feel good” movies in non specific order because it is impossible to tell which one is the best. I will not comment every single one of them but it`s hard not to speak about memories which pop up in my head.

Back to the Future 1985

Back to the Future 2 1989

I preferred the second one because there is the “past”, the “presents” and the “future” in one movie. Since I saw it the first time I’ve absolutely wanted a Hoverboard and the Nike shoes, even if they will not go with anything I own! The third part in the wild west was ok but never as good as the first two.

Ferris Bueller`s Day off 1986

The Breakfast Club 1985

Pretty in Pink 1986.

Never understood why she fell for Blane and not for Duckie.

Say Anything 1989.

I`m a big John Cusack fan!

Dirty Dancing 1987.

My friends and I watched it over and over again and tried to copy the dance moves.

Here I have to mention Grease 1978 even if it`s not an 80s movie. One of my absolute favourite movies of all time. Love to sing along when watching.

Hairspray 1988.

The remake with John Travolta was great too but the 80s one rocked hard.

Little Shop of Horrors 1986

This movie is maybe the reason I hate dentists. Steve Martin as Orin Scrivello the violent dentist was terrific.

Innerspace 1987

Indiana Jones

Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981 / Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 1984 / Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989

Romancing the Stone 1984

Weird Science 1985

Scrooged 1988

I think I watched it almost every year as well as Groundhog Day 1993. Big Bill Murray Fan!

Ghostbusters 1984

Willow 1988

Who framed Roger Rabbit 1988

As a girl I tried to draw Jessica Rabbit over and over again. She was my idol.

Beetlejuice 1988

Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice were so wonderful. My absolute favourite part is the final sequence. And just by the way: two years ago I dressed like Miss Argentina on Halloween

Gremlins 1984

How can you not fall in love with the Mogwai Gizmo?? Also an every year movie.

The Lost Boys 1987

I was desperately in love with Corey Haim

Big 1988

The “Burbs” 1989

The Goonies 1985

Honey, I shrunk the Kids 1989

I also liked the other two parts: Honey, I Blew Up the Kid 1992 / Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves 1997

Look Who`s Talking 1989

Watched it countless times!

“Popcorn, I want popcorn!!” (that`s a quote from the second movie)

Look Who’s Talking Too 1990

Look Who’s Talking Now 1993

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure 1989

Keanu Reeves as Ted Logan is too cute!

The Princess Bride 1987

To be honest I saw this movie the first time with my husband, so a couple years ago, but it`s a fantastic movie from the 80s

The Never Ending Story 1984

When Bastian gives the Childlike Empress her new name "Moon Child" I was screaming at the screen. I really don`t understand why he could not choose a better one!!

Little Monsters 1989

I was very in love with Fred Savage!!

E.T. 1982

That`s a must see movie but I cried my eyes out when the scientists hurt him.

Howard the Duck 1986

MOMO 1986

A German and Italian production.

Evil Dead II – Dead by Dawn 1987

It`s such a bad movie but I laughed really hard.

Short Circuit 1986

Overboard 1987

The shoe rack that Dean Proffitt builds for Joanna Stayton is a dream!!

Earth Girls Are Easy 1988

Jeff Goldblum as Mac the blue alien, Jim Carrey as Wiploc the red one and Damon Wayans as Zeebo, which was yellow. I have a thing for aliens and Goldblum

Vibes 1988

Cyndi Lauper and Goldblum!!!

Twins 1988

My Stepmother is an Alien 1988

Peggy Sue got Married 1986

Coming to America 1988

Labyrinth 1986

High Spirits 1988

3 Men and a Baby 1987

As you may know I`m a big Disney fan. So the last six movies aren`t all Disney productions but all of them are full-length cartoon feature.

The Last Unicorn 1982

Wonderful! But soooooo sad!!!

Oliver & Company 1988

Walt-Disney-Studios

The Little Mermaid 1989

This was the very first movie I saw on a cinema screen.

The Land Before Time 1988

All Dogs Go to Heaven 1989

An American Tail 1986

You may have noticed that I haven`t mentioned all great movies from the 80s. Titles like “Rain Man”, “Tootsie”, “Flashdance”, “Platoon”, “Footloose”, “Risky Business”, “Alien”, “Sixteen Candles”, “Cocoon”, “Blade Runner”, “The Witches of Eastwick” or “Brazil”

I didn`t list them up because they don`t give me the feeling which I had when I was a child.

But I`m sure if you like the 80s you would love them too. And the winter season is long enough for all of them! Hope I could show you some movies you didn`t already know.

Which one is your favourite and why? Do you have other “feel good” movies to recommend? And why do YOU love 80s movies?
